The 12Ah lithium battery is smaller than the 20–24Ah batteries used in our full-size models — that is the trade-off for the FoldX's ultra-compact 14-inch folded profile. For context, 9.3 miles can cover a typical day at a museum or theme park, a trip through a shopping mall plus nearby errands, or airport terminal travel. If you need 13+ miles for full-day excursions without recharging, the Flex Aluminum or Flex Pro offers longer range. The battery detaches easily and charges in approximately 5–6 hours using a standard wall outlet.

Yes — the FoldX was designed with air travel in mind. The 12Ah battery is rated at 288 watt-hours (Wh), which is below the 300Wh FAA/IATA limit for certain lithium batteries on passenger aircraft. Remove the battery and carry it in your cabin bag, then gate-check the folded frame, or drive the chair to the gate and have airline staff handle it. Airline rules and aircraft storage space vary, so always contact your airline at least 48 hours before departure to confirm its wheelchair and battery policy.

The FoldX uses a hybrid carbon-aluminum frame intentionally. Carbon fiber tubes are used for the main frame rails because they are lightweight and help absorb vibration. Aluminum alloy joints and connectors are used around the folding mechanism and stress points because they are durable, serviceable, and precise. An all-carbon frame could be lighter but more expensive, while an all-aluminum frame would be heavier and less compact. The hybrid design balances portability, durability, and price at approximately 36 lbs and $1,999.

The 220W brushless motor handles sidewalks, carpet, tile, compacted gravel, and ramps or moderate inclines within the product specifications. Because the chair weighs about 36 lbs, the motor has less weight to move than on heavier aluminum models. The brushless design runs quietly, requires little internal maintenance, and uses battery power efficiently. Electromagnetic brakes engage when you release the joystick, helping hold the chair in place even on a slope. The 35.43-inch turning radius also helps with tight spaces such as restaurants, hotel rooms, and narrow hallways.

The FoldX is designed for both travel and everyday use. Its 220 lb weight capacity, breathable mesh seat with a high-density foam cushion, and adjustable footrests and armrests support comfortable daily mobility. The 220W brushless motor handles common terrain, the 9.3-mile range covers many everyday errands, and the suspension helps smooth sidewalk bumps. When you return home, the bidirectional folding design collapses the chair to just 14 inches thick for compact storage.

The chair arrives mostly pre-assembled. You only need to attach the joystick controller and footrests, which usually takes 10–15 minutes; a manual is included. Very little. The 220W brushless motor is sealed and maintenance-free, with no brushes to replace. The PU flat-free tires never need air and cannot be punctured, while the carbon fiber tubes do not rust. Wipe the frame with a damp cloth regularly, inspect the bidirectional folding hinges every few months, charge the 12Ah battery whenever the LCD indicates a low level, and store the chair indoors or under a protective cover. Periodically inspect the tires, brakes, fasteners, and electrical connections, and contact support if anything appears loose or damaged.
